Moulting
Scientific Beekeeping

From the moment the egg has been placed in the cell to the emergence of the Imago the bee moults six times, four times as a larva, once as a propupa and once the day on or before the day of emergence. Apolysis is the separation of the cuticle from the epidermis, the scientific term for the act of moulting.

Ecdysis is the actual emergence of a new form of the insect from an old cuticle. The result in all insects is a complete metamorphosis.
