Basic Beekeeping
Beekeeping is international and the labelling of the books below is an indication only of origin. The North American Continent has a widely variable climate and the standard hive is Langstroths. By contrast in the UK and Ireland there is more variety but the most popular hive is the "National". European beekeepers used to use the Dadant but increasingly are turning to Langstroth hives. Clearly antipodean beekeepers have seasons the opposite of those of the Northern Hemisphere and rarely experience extreme cold.
To proclaim that anything is the 'right way' to do something is asking for trouble in beekeeping as almost everyone reading this will know. In the meantime I am going to record links to any practice that I believe is non-controversial and safe to the left.
I have found these links from Ian Jobson, a master beekeeper who keeps bees in the North of England. I endorse these as applicable anywhere in the world, climate and legislation permitting.
